Example:

What purpose do you have for me?
Gabriella- To help you get things done.
SW- To help you enjoy the moment.
How do you serve me?
Gabriella- I help you accomplish things and this makes your life better.
SW- I help you to slow down. I help you make your life better too, but in a different way!
What do you want FOR me?
G- I want for you to be productive and accomplished at your teaching and your writing and your business.
SW- I want for you to be peaceful, to not be clinging to the past or worried about the future.
What do you want FROM me?
G- I want you to get a lot done. No dilly dallying. I want you to excel at what you do.
SW- I want you to remember that this moment is the only moment you have.
What do you think about the other part?
G- I think Strawberry Woman is too slow. I think we don’t have TIME to sit still and meditate and savor a damn strawberry every 15 minutes.
SW- I think Gabby is always in too much of a rush. I think she DOES too much instead of just BEing.
What do you want the other to know about you?
G- I want Strawberry Woman to know that I just LIKE getting stuff done. It’s just who I AM.Ā I never really thought about slowing down and savoring the strawberries before.Ā I don’t always do things in a hurry, though. I can get a lot done by taking my time too.
SW- I want Gabby to know that I’m not opposed to getting things done. Hey, I don’t just sit around and meditate on strawberries all day. I just like there to be a balance too.
G- Yes, I can see where I might get more done if I slowed down more often. Thank you.
SW- You are welcome.
Common Ground:Ā They both just honestly want to make my life better.
To see your dark side, to see what you are really up to
while not shaming yourself for it,
reconnects you to your true self and reveals its spacious grandeur.
Such vision is a form of mindfulness.
~ David Richo
