Video Retreat- Joy & Sorrow

Meeting Sister Joy & Sister Sorrow

Saturday March 15, 2025

sccopyrightfree 99Joy and sorrow are sisters;
they live in the same house.
~ Macrina Wiederkehr

On all our life journeys, we have experienced sorrow as well as joy.

But did you ever think about how closely related they are?

If not, please join us for our 12th KaleidoSoul SoulCollage Zoom Gathering Retreat!

In this fun, enlightening, community-centered four-hour video workshop,Ā
we’ll take a look at these two sisters – Joy and Sorrow -and discover their meanings for our lives.

Who are Sister Joy and Sister Sorrow?

Henri Nouwen tells us that ā€œsadness and joy kiss each other at every moment.ā€

Poet William Blake says that they are ā€œwoven fine.ā€

In this 4-hour Zoom SoulCollage workshop, we’ll have a chance to explore the relationship between these two inevitable sisters and how they relate to our individual stories.

Through guided imagery, journaling, the SoulCollageĀ® process, and optional small group discussion, we’ll invite a meeting and a dialog between Sister Joy and Sister Sorrow because they have much wisdom to offer each other (and us).

This will bring us into closer relationship with ourselves as we continue on our journey.

Please bring: Journal and pen. If you have a card for Joy and a card for Sorrow, bring them. If not, that’s perfectly fine!

sccopyrightfree74What This Zoom Retreat is All About

Anne Marie will lead the first 90 minutes of our time together with an Opening Circle to gather us into “retreat mode.”Ā  There will be time for you to learn about Sister Joy and Sister Sorrow.Ā  The teaching will include an overview and discussion of the differences and similarities between these two archetypes, and how they relate to our individual journeys.

This session will include teaching, optional group discussion, visual examples, guided imagery, and journaling.

Anne Marie will lead a powerful guided experience (Magical Inner Journey) where you will get to meet and (internally) dialog with your own interpretation of Sister Joy and Sister Sorrow. Afterwards, you’ll have quiet time to absorb whatever wisdom they have to give you at this point on your journey.

Then we’ll break for 45-60 minutes so everyone can be on their own to make cards, take a walk, get a bite to eat and/or continue with the journaling. We’ll turn the recording off but we will all remain on the video link as much as possible, so that we can all stay connected.

We’ll gather together again for the last 90 minutes for sharing our cards, journaling with one or more of our cards, and a closing circle to send us out of the retreat and back into our lives. Because we’ll be connected by video, you can hold a new (or old!) card up to the camera and everyone will be able to see it as you talk about it!

It’s going to be perfectly WONDER-FULL!

If you can’t attend in person, we’ll send you the video recording along with all handouts.

When you open your heart,
you get life’s ten thousand sorrows,
and ten thousand joys.

What People Are Saying
About Our KaleidoSoul Virtual Retreat Days

Being on the Zoom video call with others in various stages of discernment and resolution was powerful as well as revelatory. You were a wonderful facilitator! I really appreciate your generous sharing of all the resources you sent us after the retreat, and your immediate timing.
~ Laura, Michigan

Thank you for presenting the virtual retreat yesterday! I thought it was very well structured and unfolded smoothly. I was amazed at how quickly the time passed and thought the content was balanced and relative. ~ Jenny, Maine

I truly loved this virtual workshop! It was very enlivening to have the shared experience with others! Thank you so much. ~ Dee, Wisconsin

What an enriching, healing, beautiful afternoon – thank you!! I shouldn’t be surprised, but I was surprised what came up for me yesterday – but it was what I needed and I can feel a new space of healing that opened within me. It was such a treat for me as I don’t have a Facilitator in the area to take workshops from for just myself. So to set aside my eyes and ears as a Facilitator and just relax as a participant was a gift.
~ Barbara, Wisconsin

I wasn’t able to attend “live,” but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the video afterwards and found the cards I made as a result richly rewarding. I definitely feel more connected to the SoulCollage community after this. THANK YOU! ~ Jan, Canada

sccopyrightfree96 edited moreThis was my first experience using Zoom so I have nothing to compare it to, but I thoroughly enjoyed our small breakout group experiences. I’m certain that there was deeper sharing than we would have had in the large group. For me, it minimized the feeling that I might be taking up too much air time. It also allowed time to digest what was being shared and therefore to respond more deeply with comments or questions. I am always in awe of the power of the process of SoulCollageĀ®. Again today, with your help and guidance, SoulCollageĀ® moved me. Instead of being stuck in my head, forgiveness has become something I’m feeling at a deeper level – in my heart, in my soul. ~ Beth, Canada

First of all, huge thanks. You went the distance and never seemed the least bit frazzled by anything ( even when I managed to annihilate myself visually or sit on my microphone). Your ability to use WAIT time dazzled me. Too often I zip along if no one pops up with an answer. Bottom line, you made it possible for me to feel connected and to realize how wide the net really is. ~ Victoria, Florida

Fabulous, just fabulous! I loved seeing everyone’s faces and more especially their CARDS! ~ Josie, California

What an absolutely amazing class!!! I have been in a deep process and this just fit into it all. The depth of your teaching is so moving and powerful. Thank you, thank you, thank you. ~ Rita, Canada

Joy is hidden in sorrow and sorrow in joy. Ā
If we try to avoid sorrow at all costs, we may never taste joy, Ā
and if we are suspicious of ecstasy, agony can never reach us either. Ā
Joy and sorrow are the parents of our spiritual growth. Ā
~ Henri NouwenĀ
