Soul Singing with Anne Marie

Hi!  I'm Anne Marie, the creator of KaleidoSoul.com, and a SoulCollage®  facilitator in Massachusetts.  If you're just starting to sing your song with SoulCollage, this column is especially for you.

Suggestions for newcomers to SoulCollage:

  • Find a SoulCollage Facilitator near you.

  • Download the Getting Started with SoulCollage
    Workshop in a Box
    .

  • Visit KaleidoSoul and click on What is SoulCollage, SoulCollage Deck, and Making the Cards on the left menu.

  • Seena Frost is the one who created SoulCollage®. Visit Seena's website and see what four cards come up for you in the automatic reading, then read some of Seena's articles.

  • Read Seena's book, SoulCollage.

  • Listen to Seena's CD, Introduction to SoulCollage.

  • Don't forget to take it easy and always, always trust the process!

Anne Marie Bennett is a freelance writer, self- taught artist and SoulCollage® facilitator who trained with Seena Frost. Her background is elementary education, computer software training, writing, and mixed media art. She lives, laughs, writes, and sings (and makes her own SoulCollage® cards!) in Beverly, MA. More of Anne Marie's cards/interpretations are available on her blog, Inner Surprises.

Soul Symphonies with Karen
Sitting in for Karen this month is Sharry Teague, SoulCollage Facilitator in Oregon.

Crone Wisdom

My dictionary says that the word crone comes from Middle English (ME), derived from MD (old ewe), which was derived from ONF (carrion). I was hoping to find some highfalutin' derivation such as crown or chronology.  No such luck. Now we know exactly what the European patriarchy thought of post-menopausal women. The majesty of The Goddess in her Crone aspect hit bottom during those ME years (1350 - 1400).  We were all thought of as witches.

But, as Shakespeare reminds us, even the worm turns.  By 2030 a fourth of the women in theUS will be over 65.  We are the best-educated and most empowered cohort since those ancient times when Mother Earth was God.

The culture, once again, may recognize the gifts of aging and the Crone's role in wholeness. Jean Shinoda Bolen in Goddesses in Older Women describes a "Juicy" Crone.  This poetic pairing can sneak by our habitual thinking and bounce us into a new perspective (just like our SoulCollage cards do!).

The SoulCollage card pictured to the left was created by Sheila Filan at the Facilitators Conference, September 2004.

Sheila and I had been sharing our feelings about turning 65-- feelings of curiosity but also of confusion, fear, and apprehension. Was it okay to be an elder in our society?  Would we have a meaningful role beyond our work life?  This amazing card was her creative response.

It reminds us of how often a SoulCollage card comes, not exactly as an answer, but as an icon for the whole situation:  answer, solution, movement forward, and understanding... all right there in one image.  As we speak from the card, we integrate it further.  Here are Sheila's words for this card:

I am the one who ages into possibilities-whose wisdom comes from being and doing- colorful, multilayered-embroidered with experience.

I am the one who keeps on dancing.

Our Souls know.  They really do.  When we ask from a place of willingness, choose the images that touch us, cut, paste, and then let Wonder take over, we receive something that rocks us.  Sometimes we are rocked by a truth we were avoiding, sometimes by an outpouring of creativity. And sometimes we are rocked, so gently, like a child in a cradle

All Council neters offer essential energy.  No matter what your age the Crone can bring directness, compassion, creativity, and power.  Seek her blessings as you look at the cards made by KaleidoSoul members. Read with awe the "I am the one...." statements, so diverse, so supportive. Whether she goes by Crone, Wise Woman, Grandmother, or simply Old Lady, she offers life experience distilled to wisdom. Listen for her whisper, "Now!" and welcome her with a card of your own making.

Sharry Teague is a former high school teacher and counselor living inAshland,Oregon. Sharry says, "For over 20 years I worked mostly with seniors in that crucial transition from school to the big, wide world. I considered retirement as my personal graduation-- commencement into further exploration of the big, wide inner world.  For this, SoulCollage is a perfect practice."   Sharry has been creating SoulCollage cards for almost four years and took the Facilitator Training in September, 2004.  She currently co-facilitates a bi-monthly group with Sheila Filan.  They offer SoulCollage in a variety of venues throughout the year.
