Soul Singing with Anne Marie

Hi!  I'm Anne Marie, the creator of KaleidoSoul.com, and a SoulCollage®  facilitator in Massachusetts.  If you're just starting to sing your song with SoulCollage, this column is especially for you.

    Workshop in a Box
  • Visit KaleidoSoul and click on What is SoulCollage, SoulCollage Deck, and Making the Cards on the left menu.
  • Seena Frost is the one who created SoulCollage®. Visit Seena's website and see what four cards come up for you in the automatic reading, then read some of Seena's articles.
  • Read Seena's book, SoulCollage.
  • Listen to Seena's CD, Introduction to SoulCollage.
  • Don't forget to take it easy and always, always trust the process!

A Friend By Any Other Name...

... is still a friend! One of the things I most love about SoulCollage is the Community Suit. It took me a while to actually make cards for this suit because I was having such fun just making cards intuitively.  Community Suit cards are mostly made intentionally.

But once I got started, I couldn't seem to stop!  I have especially enjoyed making cards for the friends in my life, past and present.  And when I make a card to honor a friend, I always share it with them afterwards.

Sometimes I share the I am the one who's with them. Sometimes I just show them the card I made.  Sometimes I write about the card in a different way, explaining why I chose the images that are on the card for them.  As I write, it always becomes clearly apparent why they are my friend.

I think it's also important to make SoulCollage cards for friends who are not in our lives now as well.  It's a good way to honor the place they once held in our lives, and to give space and time to remember the wisdom they once gave us.

I encourage you this month to also notice if you have an Inner Voice (Committee Suit) that wants to speak up about being a good friend. Or perhaps Friendship is an archetype (Council Suit) that has played a big role in your life.  Maybe even one of your Animal Totems (Companions Suit) has a message to give you about Friendship.

However you express it, be sure to be on the lookout for the theme of Friendship this month.  Past, present, or future... how does Friendship play out in your life?

    Recommended resources on friendship:

Nurturing Friendship
through Community Cards

Making Community cards is a great way to nurture and honor treasured friendships.

In her SoulCollage book, Seena Frost describes the importance of the Community suit.  She says: "Usually therapy and spiritual work are done in a solitary manner or with a single therapist or teacher.  This may lead to a perspective which fails to notice the true "nettedness" of human experience.  Human beings are vitally connected with each other, and with all other human beings.  These connections need to be honored, enjoyed and used." (p.23)

Seena views the Community suit as so important that it forms an essential part of her daily card reading practice.  She draws two SoulCollage cards daily; one Community card and one other card at random from the rest of the deck.  (This is one reason it is suggested that we put different backings on our different suits, so you can choose a card randomly from a particular suit).

Seena then holds her Community Neter in a "special place of love for the day" and says that she will often let the person know that they are her "Neter of the day" by email, postcard or a phone call (see page 134 of the SoulCollage book).  She says that through the regular connections and contacts with people represented in her Community suit she has maintained some friendships that she may have otherwise lost contact with.

One of the benefits of having Community cards representing your friends is that when you draw them in a reading it is like you can tap into the wisdom of what that friend would say to you if you were to ask them for their advice.

In the middle of my recent 6-week trip tothe USA I did a SoulCollage reading when I was beginning to feel homesick and tired.  I drew my good friend Kerrilie's card as part of this reading.  This Neter gave me some very practical advice:  "You need good food, herbal tea and comfortable shoes.  You need to start taking proper care of yourself.  You can survive the next 3 weeks if you take time out to find some quiet when you truly need it.  It is time to start caring for YOU!"

While this is not exactly earth shattering advice, it was exactly the kind of advice that my friend would have given me and it was exactly what I needed to hear at that time when I was feeling very alone.  At a time when I was not in daily contact with this good friend from home, I was still able to connect with her spirit.

SoulCollage Tele-Class:  Our October tele-class is called The Hero's Journey: The Local Story, and is being led by Anne Marie Bennett and Robin Cooper-Stone, MFA.  Seena refers to the Larger Story (played out in the Companions Suit and the Council Suit), and also the Local Story, which shows up in the Committee Suit and the Community Suit.

The Local Story is all about our own personal mythology, and we'll be discussing this in relationship to SoulCollage, and to our own individual hero's (and heroine's) journey.

There's more information on this KaleidoSoul page.
