    Making Committee Cards
    That Surprise Us

One of my favorite things about SoulCollage® is making cards that totally surprise me. These surprises usually come when I make a card intuitively.

For example, the card on the lower right called Powerful is a card that I made completely because I loved how the images looked together. It might be obvious to anyone looking at it that it's about being powerful, but it wasn't obvious to me, because that was not a quality in myself that I was owning at that time.

Its meaning did become clear to me when I spent several minutes writing I AM THE ONE WHO... sentences from this card. And then I was able to really and truly feel a sense of my own power. I feel it every time I see this card, which is now a treasure and a delight to me.

Another surprise I discovered within this card when I was writing with it is that there is a clock face superimposed on the globe. It may have been obvious to you when you first looked at it, but it wasn't to me. And noticing that really added to the depth of my interpretation.
Making and working with this card has enriched my life in many ways, and I'm sure it will continue to do so the more I work with it.

Anne Marie Bennett is a freelance writer, self-
taught artist and SoulCollage® facilitator who trained with Seena Frost. Her background is elementary education, computer software training, writing, and mixed media art. She
lives, laughs, writes, and sings (and makes her own SoulCollage® cards!) in Beverly, MA. More of Anne Marie's cards/interpretations are available on her blog, Inner Surprises.

Committee Cards for
Things We Like to Do

Often, when we make Committee cards, we spend a lot of energy focusing on parts of ourselves we'd like to change or heal or "fix". I believe that it's equally or possibly even more important to honour the parts of ourselves that bring us joy.

When we make cards about things that we like doing, it acts as a reminder of our individual talents and preferences, our creativity and the inner spark inside that keeps us motivated and excited! No matter what you like doing, be it gardening, bike riding, cooking, singing, dancing, playing sports, hiking or whatever, these Committee cards can serve as a great reminder for you to make time for things you like doing and help to highlight your gifts and abilities.

As well as reminding you to spend time doing "fun stuff," these cards can also teach you "bigger picture" lessons.

My Creative Abandon/Joyfully Messy card says: I am the one who loves to splash paint around and get so caught up in my creative expression that mess abounds. I am the one who requires time & space to be totally me, without worrying about the mess I'm making or the presence of others. I am the one who is "reborn" through creative expression and finds joy in being me!

This card reminds me that my life is busy and noisy, filled with people who "need" me. Without my own space (to make art or just to "be"), I can begin to feel stifled and claustrophobic. This card inspires me to keep working towards my dream of having my own art studio, but on a larger scale, it also reminds me how important and essential it is for me to have time & space (of any kind).

My Surfer Girl Committee member says: I am the one who loves surfing, even though I'm not that good at it yet! I love feeling connected to the ocean. I love watching the ebb and flow of the tides! I take whatever is dealt to me, making the best I can of the waves available. I'm learning to take things slowly, celebrating each small victory, enjoying each step closer to living my dream. I love the meditative solitude of just me, my board and the waves. I love the challenge and the anticipation. I love the thrills and the spills. I really am laid back as I wait for the next set! I smile and relax. I let the ocean heal me!

Metaphorically, this card could also be talking about my approach to my business, my family, my relationship, and my life- "I take whatever is dealt to me, making the best I can of "whatever" is available. I'm learning to take things slowly, celebrating each small victory, enjoying each step closer to living my dream."

Not only does this card encourage me to make more time in my life for surfing, it also assists me to view my life experiences through a surfer's eyes - what a wonderful gift this is! Have you ever met a stressed-out "type A" surfer? I doubt it! They spend so much time "kicking back", waiting for the right wave (or circumstance), ever optimistic and eternally patient. This card reminds me to "hang ten" & "chill out dude"! WOW! The world sure looks different from here!

I'd like to encourage you to make some Committee cards about things you like doing and see what messages they have to share with you. At the least they'll serve as a reminder to include things you love doing in your life, but more than likely, they may also share some other wisdom with you- and the really wonderful thing is that this lesson has been taught to you through experiencing and exploring joy, and not pain!

Note-worthy sites & resources that are proven to be worthy of our readers!

Check out the site which is the best site ever to buy CD's from. Their customer service is awesome; their shipping prices are less than Amazon's; you can listen to samples of the music before you buy it; they're a big company with a great sense of humor and an excellent attitude toward their customers. All you have to do is buy there once and you'll see what I mean! Their New Age music collection is very broad, and perfect for background music while you're making those beautiful SoulCollage cards! It's music to inspire your soul.

Center for Self Leadership- this is an excellent resource for working with the "inner committee" in our minds. My therapist is trained in this process and has been working it with me for the last several months. It blends beautifully with the SoulCollage process, and has enriched my practice so much.
