    New Year- New Beginnings

My favorite New Year's quote is from beloved poet
    Rainer Maria Rilke:

And now let us welcome the new year,
full of things that have never been.

I've always loved New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, and have come to think of them as Sacred Time in my life. I make a little ritual of reading all of the previous year's journals during the first few days of a new year. It gives me a chance to look back, to celebrate the gifts I discovered on my life's journey during the previous 12 months, and to view the terrain I traveled from a different vantage point. It also gives me a chance to look ahead, and I always do so with a sense of keen anticipation and joy.

As you enter 2007, make a commitment to yourself to look forward to wherever your journey is taking you. Look back on all of the SoulCollage cards you created during 2006, and think ahead of all the ones you'll make this year... remembering that each card you create brings you one step closer to your own beautiful soul, and one step farther on your own amazing life's journey.

Anne Marie Bennett is a freelance writer, self-
taught artist and SoulCollage® facilitator who trained with Seena Frost. Her background is elementary education, computer software training, writing, and mixed media art. She
lives, laughs, writes, and sings (and makes her own SoulCollage® cards!) in Beverly, MA. More of Anne Marie's cards/interpretations are available on her blog, Inner Surprises.

Soul Symphonies With Karen

My name is Karen Mann and I'm a SoulCollage® facilitator from Melbourne, Australia. This column is for those of you who have already made some cards & are ready to discover the symphony of voices inside of you and around you.

A SoulCollage Reading for New Beginnings

The new year brings a great time for new beginnings; with many of us reflecting on the changes we make in our lives and setting resolutions and goals in order to (finally) make those changes we've always meant to.

I believe that not only should we make time to look at what we need to change or fix in our lives, but also that we take time to celebrate our successes over the last year and how far we have come, and clearly look at where we are now and what we are on our way towards achieving.

Ellen Goodman says:
We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives... not looking for flaws, but for potential.

Doing a SoulCollage reading is a wonderful way to reflect, celebrate and plan as we head into a New Year. SoulCollage readings do not only have to be about things we want to 'fix,' they really can help us to "balance the list" and look for and celebrate our potential.

Past, Present, Future Reading

This reading recommended by Noelle Remington & Linda Packard, fellow SoulCollage Facilitators, was adapted from a tarot spread. It involves drawing 3 cards, each one representing the past, the present and the future.

You conduct this reading in a similar manner to other SoulCollage readings: drawing cards at random and completing the "I am the one who" statements for each card. The main difference is that you have decided that each card you draw will specifically give you advice from the perspective of a certain time period.

This may be carried out as a general reading about where things are at, or you may choose to draw a past, present & future card relating to a certain issue. For example, a reading about weight loss may include a card drawn to express past experiences with losing (or trying to lose weight), the present situation in terms of your current weight, and your future weight loss plans and strategies.

I recently did a Past, Present, Future reading about my financial status and my desire to feel more financially secure.

Here is a brief overview of this reading (including images of the 3 cards I drew and my interpretations in relation to my question about financial security).

Karen Mann is an artist, art teacher, Lifestyle Coach, yoga and meditation teacher, and SoulCollage® facilitator. New Beginnings
Artist: Anne B
Location: New Hampshire

I am the One who takes a deep breath and takes each day as a new beginning. I am the One who begins anew again and again. I am the One who sees blue sky and an open horizon ahead of me. I bring you confidence and clarity. I remind you to take a deep breath and open your eyes to your future.

One Who Explores
the Mysteries
Artist: Michele
Location: Florida

I am the one who explores the mysteries. I seek the truth behind the veil as I travel to lands beyond the beyond. I map the realms of the fiery rock where matter meets and melts, transforms and builds anew.

Untitled
Artist: Ariadne
Location: California

I am One who can always find a way to make lemonade out of lemons and bathwater out of rainstorms. Remember my strength and creativity when you think your life is in pieces. Pick up those pieces and make something playful with them. Lighten up!

Root Chakra Snake
Artist: Sharon
Location: California

I am the One who survives. I am the One who rises above the fear like the transforming Kundalini fire. I am the One who connects with the Earth and reaches for the stars. I give you strength and stability. I give you physical health and prosperity. I give you the ability to overcome adversity.
