The
Voice of a Different Kindred Spirit Each Week

Toni Bailie
Paisley, Oregon
Seena Frost's book on SoulCollage® found me in 2004 while I was browsing through a book store in Ashland, Oregon. From the moment that book jumped off the shelf into my hand, I embarked on a magical journey. Making and processing SoulCollage® cards has become a significant part of my personal spiritual practice. But my personal self discovery is only part of a powerful transformation that is gathering momentum around the earth.
Since my Facilitator Training in Santa Cruz in 2005, more than 700 people have been to the training workshops and continue to spread this amazing technique across America and in other countries. Although I live in a remote area of Southeast Oregon, I am a vital part of this vibrant fellowship through the Internet. I feel connected to those sharing the myriad ways to use SoulCollage®.
I've had the joy of introducing many people to this transformative tool. For several years, I've been meeting and sharing cards with seven women. We have formed a deep connection of love and support. When I turned 60, they helped me celebrate becoming an elder. They each made a special card for me that I treasure.
Listening to Seena Frost's six-CD set on Soul Collage® has deepened my understanding of how to make and use my cards. From Seena's first community cards that were the genesis of SoulCollage®, the process continues to expand and evolve.
In April 2008, four of us from the Oregon Outback were blessed to participate in The Three Faces of Silence Retreat in Los Gatos. Seena Frost and Mariabruna Sirabella led us in a deep, quiet weekend of pondering the three Transpersonal cards -- Source, SoulEssence and Witness. I became more aware of the endless possibilities awaiting my exploration.
Each time I facilitate a SoulCollage® workshop, I am fascinated and awed by the beauty and profound insights that manifest through the cards. I've never seen two cards alike. They truly form a kaleidoscope of color and meaning.
Let's keep making cards and sharing the process with others. We are catching the wave of transformation, a new paradigm for our world.
Editor's Note: Toni is leading our December KaleidoSoul tele-class. See details below.
We hope you'll join us!
Here are two of my current favorite cards:
CIRCLE OF LIFE
Surrender to the cycle of seasons,
to the circle of Life.
Spring segueing into summer,
then light dwindling as autumn approaches.
Winter squeezing long hours of light
into a narrow day,
slinging stars as points of light,
gleaming in the dark void.
Surrender to the cycle
of your brief life span.

I am the one who... exercise with this card, or have other writings about it, read them over briefly. Then close your eyes, take the essence of the card into your being and slowly breathe with the energy that the card evokes. Breathe the energy in...1...2...3... Breathe out any energy that is stale or negative or unhelpful to you at this time...1...2...3. Do this several times. Journal about what you noticed.

Simply Celebrate - Turning ordinary days into an extraordinary life. This is a completely wonderful website that I discovered while looking for online places to host me on my
Bright Side of the Road Blog Tour. Simply Celebrate is about coming to life. Coming to your senses. It's making the choice, over and over again, one thousand times each day, to be present to the life in front of you, right here, right now. It's about allowing life to lead you. And also, stepping into the world you want to create.
Photography of Jim Brandenburg- Now here are some beautiful photographs that make me slow down and say ahhhh.... His work honors nature and the circle of life in an extraordinary way.
Narada Guitar - These CDs are both compilations of artists. Songs range from reflective to joyous. I also like
Best of Narada World are world music CDs with flamenco, Cuban, and African-inspired rhythms. Recommended by
Kindred Spirit Laurie in California.

Soul Nourishment - Books
|
Fairy Tale Blues, by Tina Welling. This excellent novel focuses on a strong female character, AnnieLaurie. On the evening of her 26th wedding anniversary in Wyoming, she walks out of the celebration dinner with her husband Jess and catches a flight to Florida. She has suddenly decided (with good reason) to take a "marriage sabbatical," and the narration of the rest of the novel easily slips back and forth, chapter to chapter, from the point of views of AnnieLaurie, and Jess. It is really the story of a marriage, and of AnnieLaurie's need for getting to know herself and follow her own path within the context of that marriage. This is something that I have struggled with and the author "hits the nail on the head" hundreds of times. Also included are several other married couples, two kind sons, a therapist who skis, several really cool dogs, a little mystery and intrigue, and a meditation retreat. Highly recommend!
The Care and Feeding of Perfectionists , by Cynthia Curnan. I identify very strongly with the inner part known as the perfectionist. This book delves deeply into this universal personality part. Very, very helpful and easy to read (in other words, it is not written in psychology mumbo-jumbo.) Note: This book is out of print, BUT many used copies are available at Amazon by clicking on the title link at the beginning of this paragraph.
Stalking the Divine, by Kristin Ohlson. Wandering into a forgotten downtown Cleveland church for a Christmas mass, the author discovered the Poor Clares - a tiny, threadbare congregation of cloistered elderly nuns with one mission: to pray day and night for the sorrows of the world. Kristin was utterly enchanted by these devoted women and started to attend church for the first time in many years. Why, she wonders, have these women retreated from the world to joyfully devote themselves to perpetual adoration? How do they sustain their faith? And what, ultimately, is faith? As Kristin - a long-time skeptic - opens up to the Poor Clares,
she opens herself to the possibility of the sacred.
The result is an inspiring personal journey as well
as a poignant reflection on the power of the church
and faith, no matter what our religion may be.
