Highlights of this issue:
Quotation of the Week
Inner Journeys with Anne Marie Bennett Integrating the Practice of SoulCollage® Into Our Daily Lives Happily Ever After When I was a little girl, I loved to read fairy tales, especially that too-familiar last sentence:
And they all lived happily ever after (I always was a pushover for a happy ending!).
In my thirties, I discovered a Stephen Sondheim musical, Into the Woods, which creatively combines a fascinating montage of fairy tale characters (Cinderella, Jack and the Giant, Little Red Riding Hood, the Baker, the Wicked Witch...etc) into one story. And here's the best part: Act One ends with and they all lived happily ever after, and Act Two is all about what happens NEXT! Needless to say, things don't turn out all peaches and cream for anyone in this story. What happens is that LIFE happens to each and every one of them, and they in turn must choose how to respond. They each much decide how to create their own "happy ever after." I like Margaret Bonanno's quote (above) so much because it swims into a very clear middle ground between these two extremes: everyone lives happily ever after, or no one lives happily ever after. The fact of the matter is, I believe, that we ALL can live happily ever after.... but since we don't know what curves life is going to throw us tomorrow or even in the next hour, we must claim our current happiness for the precious gift that it is. May each day bring you a new opportunity
to discover your own Happy-Ever-After, right Here-and-Now, in this One-and-Only day that you've been given. SoulCollage® ExpressionsIdeas and Challenges to Spice Up Your SoulCollage® Practice Challenge of the Week Try journaling with the questions below. Or simply print them out and set them where you can see them often. Sometimes just living with questions like these is enough. 1. Is your life tuning out exactly like you thought/planned it? 2. If so, what did you do to make it happen? If not, name the things that got in the way of this ideal "happy-ever-after" life. 3. Can you find a way to make room in your life for these things that got in the way of what you thought was going to be a happy life? Can you find space to accept these things somehow? 4. Make a list of all the things in your life right now (today only) that bring you happiness in spite of how differently things turned out for you. Make space in your life for these current happiness-bringers. Truly notice and embrace them, and watch what happens. 5. Make a SoulCollage® card for any part of you that comes up while working with these questions. It could be any of these: the one who believes in happy endings, the one who hates fairy tales, the one who savors each moment as it comes, the one who creates her own life.... Or anything else that feels right to you.
