Highlights of this issue:

Quotation of the Week

Surely the greatest work of art any of us can ever create is our own soul. In the slow, delicate layering, there are necessary places of waiting, incubation, and integration. Within these things lies the holiness of nondoing.

Recently I have been thinking about the discoveries that have been announced in my lifetime (I'm 73 years old). One of them is the new archaeological site in Brazil. It has been photographed by satellite and brings incredible information about an ancient civilization we never knew existed before now. Plumbing the depths of my unconscious through the creative expression of SoulCollage® has allowed me the discovery of 'a whole new civilization' within me that I have not known existed. It's bigger than a village, for sure!

It felt that way when I attended The Three Faces of Silence workshop weekend with Seena Frost and Mariabruna Sirabella at Pine Manor in January 2007 here in California.

Initially, not being an artist, I felt somewhat intimidated. I was determined, though, to turn off my left brain and my critical self. I dove into making my Source Card (see below), not knowing 'what I was doing.' "Just let it be" was my mantra.

What evolved was incredible. I was awed. I still am. What my Source card speaks to is the richness of my spiritual journey. I feel wealthy. Although all the spiritual expressions I have embraced have been powerfully different, each has held such wisdom when they have 'arrived at my door'. Through all my life experiences I can look back and see how I have been held. I have never been alone. I have walked on my path; I have traveled on the great river of life - always with Source as my guide, my inspiration and my companion even in the times when I was not aware, or did not recognize Presence.

I had years of psychotherapy, including Psychoanalysis for which I am grateful to great therapists: David, Mike, Rose and Jim. Despite the plumbing of my depths through therapy, SoulCollage® has held a beacon out to me for more integration, for more joy in discovery, for more healing and laughter. The process enables me to embrace my creative self (my Aunt Grace, the artist in the family, is rejoicing, I'm sure).

I am just now, January 2010, giving up my beloved 'home away from home' - my office of 36 years. I am starting a new chapter that will be steeped in giving SoulCollage® workshops and private sessions. I look forward to continuing growth with my Source ...... oh, yes, and joy with my dear year old Welch Pembroke Corgi, Uncle Louis, who just now is teaching me to walk in the rain, 'Just Singin' in the Rain'.

Peace and blessings to you all.

Win

Remembering to Pray and Breathe

Committee Suit

I am the one who recognizes the importance of the spiritual in my life.
I am the one who breaks out of every shell into newness of life.
I am the one who needs to breathe and to meditate.
I am the one who, out of the darkest dark, and dead wood, looks to the Fall of life to spring forth in joy toward the Light.

Source Card

Note: the river (left lower corner), path (right upper corner); my own archaeological dig and stitches always toward Love (upper left corner); and of course, The Light. The Scarab stands for resurrection. I have experienced many necessary deaths and resurrections of all sorts. I am thankful for each one.

Our Next Tele-Class

Eye of the Hawk SoulCollage® Reading, with Mili Ballard
SoulCollage® Facilitator and Facilitator Trainer in North Carolina

Mili will share a brief description of the transpersonal map of the psyche that includes the biographical, perinatal, and transpersonal levels of consciousness. Founded on the work of Stanislav Grof, transpersonal psychology purports that for sustainable healing to occur, all three levels of the psyche must be touched within the transformative process.

Mili will guide us through an "Eye of the Hawk" reading that incorporates these concepts to potentially expand our awareness, consciousness, and personal healing/growth via our own SoulCollage® decks.

Mili Ballard has been a SoulCollage® facilitator since May 2005 and a SoulCollage® facilitator trainer since February 2007. Mili is a training consultant within business and industry and also focuses on assisting individuals involved in their own processes of personal transformation. Mili and her life partner Johnny Dillard, also a trained SoulCollage® facilitator, co-lead "Just" Blank Cards, their private practice focusing on using the communicative power of images to enhance relationships with self and othersPlease visit Mili's website, SoulCollager's Respite.

A Place Called Peace, by Randy Granger. Recorded with hand-crafted flutes, guitar and steel hand drum. Inspired by the beautiful, quiet deserts of New Mexico.
Soul Nourishment - Books

Lost and Found, by Carolyn Parkhurst. This amazing novel follows several pairs of partners who are part of an exciting around-the-world adventure reality television show called "Lost and Found" (kind of like "Amazing Race" meets "Jeopardy.") But it goes much deeper than that. Each pair is holding a secret, and the story lines merge and cross as their secrets impact the outcome of the game. Carolyn has a beautiful way of creating character development that immediately drew me in. There is much in this beautiful book about authenticity and living one’s own inner truth no matter what is happening on the outside. Highly recommend.

A Book of Silence, by Sara Maitland. She talks about her decision to live alone in a small cottage in the Scottish Highlands, in search of silence. She also describes her experience of spending six weeks alone in a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, by way of describing some of the experiences common to those who embrace long periods of silence.

Potluck, by Kim Thomas. It all begins at the table. A long table dressed in an oversized tablecloth and covered with various pyrex dishes, fiesta bowls, covered casseroles, dutch ovens, and cake plates. The tradition is familiar, the recipes are old and new, the people are known and unknown. But by the end of the evening, everyone is full, all having given something, taken something, and found something. This compelling and transparent collection of meditations is based on the Potluck dinner heritage. Kim Thomas explores the beauty and diversity of food at the community table as a metaphor for the community of faith. The table offers a place of discovery and delivery, becoming and belonging. Potluck: Parables of Giving, Taking, and Belonging is an insightful assembly of thoughts, a narrative moving readers to find that they have a place at the table - a place to give, to take, and to belong.
