Soul Singing with Anne Marie

Hi! I’m Anne Marie, the creator of KaleidoSoul, and a SoulCollage® facilitator in Massachusetts. If you’re just starting to sing your song with SoulCollage®, then this column is for you!

Idea of the month:
"I use Mod Podge for Paper (the Matte formula)instead of a glue stick to make my SoulCollage cards. I line my workspace with wax paper, and use an inexpensive brush and a jar of water to rinse the brush. Be sure to get the Mod Podge made specifically for paper instead of the regular kind. ---from Cheryl

    Soul Symphonies with Karen

My name is Karen Mann and I’m a SoulCollage® Facilitator from Melbourne, Australia. This column is for those of you who have already made some SoulCollage® cards and are ready to discover the symphony of voices inside of you and around you.

    The Companions Suit--
    Your Animal Guides

As I look through my SoulCollage deck I realize that not only do I have animals, birds and insects on my Companion Suit cards, I also have quite a number of other cards in other suits that include images of animals.

I've found it interesting to work with these images of animals because it's not always obvious what messages the animals have for me. At times some of these animals have been out of my realm of understanding (a beaver, a lemur, a flamingo...) because I just don't know very much about them.

I have devised a number of strategies that have helped me to connect with the animals and explore the messages that they have for me. Here are some of them:

    • Go online or to the library and read about the animal. Find out where it lives, what it eats, how it travels, what its habits are...etc.
    • Think about sayings and fairy tales/myths which involve the animal (ie: cunning as a fox, meek as a mouse, the Swan Princess, the Ugly Duckling...)
    • Research what other cultures say about the animal's symbolism.
    • When I am employing these strategies, what I am looking for is anything that resonates with me. For example, just because the saying is "as stubborn as a mule," doesn't mean that my card with a mule on it is about being stubborn. I check in with myself and see if this fits.

There might be some totally different interpretation that fits for me instead. For instance, if my grandparents owned a mule when I was a child, that mule on my card might symbolize the wisdom and nurturing I experienced when I visited them.

      Questions to Help You
      Go Deeper With Your Deck:

You may wish to use these questions as prompts for journaling about your cards and/or you may wish to share some of your discoveries and thoughts with the KaleidoSoul Community.

      • How many cards do you have that contain animals, birds, or insects?
      • If you don't have any, why do you think this is so?
      • Do you have any particular animal that is represented on more than one card?
      • Are you finding it easy to understand the messages that the animals on your cards have to give you? Why or why not?
      • Karen Mann is an artist, art teacher, Lifestyle Coach, and yoga and meditation teacher. Karen is a SoulCollage® facilitator, and was trained by Seena Frost, the creator of the process. Karen has been working with SoulCollage® cards for two years & facilitates a variety of SoulCollage™ Groups as well as working with individuals. Karen is based in Melbourne, Australia. KaleidoSoul Notes

This column is for note-worthy books, CD's, movies and websites, which come tested and proven worthy of our Soul Songs readers!

Coaching the Artist Within - a most valuable paperback book by creativity coach Eric Maisel. If you're anything like I am, you NEED this book! I just finished a chapter called Creating in the Middle of Things. Here is my favorite quote from this chapter:

You must learn how to create when wars are raging and when your hormones are raging. You must learn how to create even if you hate your country's politics or your own painting style. You must learn how to create even if you are embroiled in a bad marriage or living alone and lonely. You must learn to create even if you work eight hours a day at a silly job or, sometimes worse, find yourself at home all day with time on your hands.

If you wait for a better time to create, better than this very moment, if you wait until you feel settled, divinely inspired, perfectly centered, unburdened of your usual worries, or free of your own skin, forget about it. You will still be waiting tomorrow and the next day, wondering why you never managed to begin, wondering how you did such an excellent job of disappointing yourself.

FREE DVD OFFER from the Spiritual Cinema Circle. For the month of November only, you'll receive one month free membership, which means you get a free DVD which contains FOUR spiritually-oriented films: 1 feature-length, 2 shorts, and 1 documentary. Comes with thought-provoking questions. Great to watch alone or with a group of family/friends.

I joined a few months ago, and my mind, heart and soul continue to be completely engaged as well as challenged as I watch each movie. Watching these movies informs my art and my writing in a big way. The world needs more soul-ful films like the ones that Spiritual Cinema Circle offers.

Check out these blogs from other SoulCollagers like yourself.... Kathy from Florida, Sharry from Oregon, and Fran from California. On each of these blogs, you'll find wonderful stories, SoulCollage cards, and love!
