Soul Singing with Anne Marie |

Hi! I'm
Anne Marie, the creator of KaleidoSoul.com, and a
SoulCollage® facilitator in Massachusetts. If you're just starting
to sing your song with SoulCollage®, this column is especially for
you.
The Wonder of It
All
I was 13 years old on July 20, 1969 when the first human being,
Neil Armstrong, walked on the moon. I remember it so clearly. My
first job as a mother’s helper to our neighbors and their three
children landed me on Cape Cod that month and I watched it with
them on a small old-fashioned television screen in the warm sandy,
salty cottage where we were all staying. My big brother John, 19,
was also with us (although I can’t remember why) and I remember the
thrill of sharing that big moment with him as well as our
neighbors.
I suspect that if you were
anywhere near a TV on that day, you remember exactly where you were
and who you were with also.
When I started thinking about what to write about our theme “The
Moon” this month, I was stymied. I have to admit that I don’t know
much about the moon, and am looking forward to Michelle Hedgecock’s
tele-class on March 10 so I can understand more fully its myths and
meaning in my own life. Also, Cat Caracelo’s column (below) has
shed much light on this subject for me, and I hope for you as
well.
Then I flipped through my SoulCollage® deck and discovered, to my
delight, that I have 15 cards with moon images on them! I chose the
one above, which I call Wonder, to illustrate this column, because
of how wondrous it was, how amazing, to watch those two astronauts
(Armstrong, along with Buzz Aldrin) actually step foot on the moon.
What had once been only a beautiful light in the sky was now
accessible and attainable.
Years later, in my 20’s, I was teaching second grade in Virginia
and one of my former college professors got in touch with me. He
was touring elementary schools with a display of actual moon rocks
that the astronauts had brought back with them, and I was more than
happy to invite him to Virginia to share with my class. Another
wondrous moment . . . actually touching a piece of the moon,
instead of gazing at it from afar.
For me, the wonder of it all is twofold. First, the scientific fact
that human beings have actually figured out how to catapult
themselves to the moon and stand on its rocky ground. Second, the
metaphorical story of how something that seemed so unattainable is
now something that we take for granted.
I look at my own life and I see some similar patterns. In my
childhood I thought that publishing a book was an unattainable
goal, only for others. But now I’ve published several! I never
imagined that I could own and operate a successful business that
would bring me joy and make a difference in others’ lives, but here
I am, and KaleidoSoul is living proof of that. Swim with dolphins?
Hug a sea lion? See an iceberg up close? Sing along with Josh
Groban on a Broadway stage? These might seem like small things
compared with humans walking on the moon, but they weren’t small to
me. They were mighty big and I was flooded with wonder when each of
them actually occurred.
Several people are attributed to this often-used quote, “Reach for
the moon. The worst that will happen is that you’ll fall among the
stars.” What about you? What seemingly unattainable dreams have
you managed to make come true in your own life? How have you
reached for the proverbial moon in the past? How are you reaching
for it now? Incorporate this idea into your own deck in some way to
always remind you that what seems impossible might just be
attainable if you set your mind and heart to it.

Mysteries of the Moon
I have long been drawn to the mysteries of the moon. Her darkness
and her light call me deeper into myself, and at times when I have
needed extra healing and a way to move through confusion, she has
been my closest companion.
The moon and her lore
drew me deeper into a reflecting pool of my own mythic remembering.
I paid attention to the whispering I heard in the wind -
remembrance and ancestral memories met me there. This period of
time was filled with new ways of accessing information, linked and
cross-pollinated with learned, intuited and felt experience.
Remembering myself was coupled with a deeper knowing; it brought a
long and deep silence.
As I listened to the rhythm of the rain and felt the heartbeat of
the earth, I connected with trees and communed with the moon.
Through this I was given a language, a frame of reference, a strong
symbol to organize my life around.
While the physical moon reflects the sun, the symbolic moon
reflects a deeper emotional, intuitive and energetic energy that
ebbs and flows, meeting each of us like the tides. As the moon
moves across the night sky, her arc shifts with the seasons,
offering a way to see and honor one’s own awareness and life path.
This is exactly what happened for me.
The moon is a
mirror. Each of her faces, or eight phases of the moon month, holds
specific information. I sensed the long held connections that were
beyond my natural ability to see. It was this symbolic moon
that called me deep into the feeling state of ancestral
remembering. As I was mapping the cycles and seasons of my moon, I
could sense and touch the moon marks that were made on stones and
left in caves 25,000 years ago.
My connection to the earth energies was fed by the gravitational
pull of my own inner waters. It was her light, the call of the
moon, that helped me to recognize and define a spiritual
happening.
It was during this period of time that I returned to art as
process, seeking a narrative of remembrance as I created a new
language. I spoke the words. I danced with my deep history and
collaged, painted, mapped and marked myriad mythologies. I explored
my unknown ancestral lineage. I was lost and found and lost again
as I stepped into the presence of the Great Mother and discovered
the power of possibility. My spirit was fed as I gathered, created
and learned. The Moon and her keepers encircled me. Luna, Rhiannon,
Diana, Selene, Hecate, Cerridwyn, Yemaya, Isis, Changxi, Ishtar,
Mano and Arianrhod were the mythic mothers, daughters and sisters
of the Moon.
La Luna, the moon, shifted and turned with each day, becoming the
face of the dark goddess, then the babe birthed in the sickle, the
keeper of the womb, the weaver of the loom, the loss of
light/awakening fright, the dawn breaking and day falling into
night, as I returned each month to the overflowing abundance of the
Full Moon.
The moon is always in a season of change. This is what I love the
most, how the moon shows me where I am in relationship with change,
and never the same. Phases of change, movement and my own path of
awareness invite me to meet the night sky and reflective darkness,
in order to see and feel what I need to know next.
As I explore relationships, places, memories and meaning, through
my art, images, and life, I am aware of a need to listen to the
night sky. I read from my images held over time, and know the moon
that will meet me when I travel or visit a sacred place. I am
intimate with the shifting nature of my own lunar light, and it is
the moon that is my constant.
As you create or explore your own SoulCollage® cards:
- Seek the moon in all of
her phases.
- Notice when the moon is
active, but out of view.
- Discover when the face of
the moon is peeking through other eyes.
- Listen and gaze as she
moves through your life path.
- Create with her
light.
- Create with her
darkness.

Skull Moon
Community Suit: Spirit Guide
Carol
New Hampshire
I am the one who teaches you to feel gently
into the coolness of winter and the beauty of the moon to softness
in a gray sky night. I am the one who lets you sense the expanse of
spirit without bleakness. The impressions of moon glow, the crisp
air in icy landscape and infinite sky helps you to let go and look
from the skull's eye to see beyond and fly. I am one who
intensifies your senses to the peace of night, soft light to see
the hollow pursuits and allow yourself comprehension in blessings
of body and spirit. Earth in all its glory is not your true
home.
Moon
Council Suit
Emilie
Texas
I am one who controls the ebb and flow of ocean tides, your
emotions, your retreating and emerging, your going within and
shining without. I am one who reflects what shines forth when you
are willing to be still enough to receive the messages from your
deep unconscious. I am one who rises above the depths of your deep
knowings to connect you to higher, expansive sight, revealing great
truths in the darkness. I am one who allows your primal instincts
to crawl forth from their deep hiding places to assist your flowing
into new unknown territories.
Moon
Mystery
Committee Suit
Judy
Massachusetts
I am one who seeks the mystery of the moon. Its changing face
as it morphs its shape and size and reminds me of my own hidden
moods and mysteries. And I wonder why the wolf howls at night. To
seek company or to hear the echoes of its own infinity. Howls enter
space and climb upwards, blending with the infinite sky and hidden
sounds of the universe. May my own song be heard so fully.

Full
Moon
Council Suit
Kas
Pennsylvania
I am the one who is full feminine power. Quite different form
my counterpart the Sun. I am deep, intuitive, mystical, ancient and
fascinating. Watch for me and experience as I show you all my
aspects. Allow me to guide you into the deeper ways of yourself. I
am the one who suggests for those who currently search for answers:
I am here in wisdom, power and peace.

The
Moon
Council / Tarot Suit
Karen
Ohio
I am the One gazing up at the moonlit heavens, inviting Luna’s
energy to wash over me. Moon’s beauty stuns me into silent awe. I
ponder life’s mysteries as Moon moves through its phases month
after month, taking me ever deeper into the Divine Feminine within
me. Crawling out of the watery labyrinth of ripples around my feet,
Lobster dredges up my subconscious, allowing me to look more
closely at my dark shadows. I must be careful not to lose my way in
the dim light.

Lioness
Companions Suit
Anne Marie
Massachusetts
I am the Queen of the jungle. I am the one who protects her
young with the fierceness of Mother energy. I am the one who hunts
by the light of the moon. My mate, Lion, is represented by Father
Sun. I was born under Mother Moon. I am wild. I am safe. I am
free.

New Moon Wishes
Committee Suit
Cat
California
I am the one who is ready to fly. I am the one who is stepping
out into new territory. I am the one who is comfortable in my skin,
relaxed and waiting, my feet rest on the edge of the silver moon,
as I gaze into the night sky. I am the one who is seeking the signs
for what I know is coming next. I am the one who is catching what
has been thrown my way, my wildest dreams are a sea of stars. I am
the one who is willing to play, my way.

Full Moon Mystery
Suit
Cat
California
I am the one who sees all lifetimes. I am who is the womb of
awareness. I am the one who wears the crown of consciousness, my
head resting on a bed of myth and matter that which is always
birthing itself, again and again. I am the one who is held beyond
time and space. The Full Moon is my familiar and Her Memories are
mapped on the constellations of my heart.

Moon Watcher
Committee Suit
Dot
Pennsylvania
I am one who watches the moon and loves to see what phase it is
in, waxing or waning or full. I am one who hears the vestiges of
patriarchy in all the chatter about the "Man" in the moon. We women
know she's "ours" and that ephemeral face belongs to the Moon
Goddess gracing us with her nightly presence and moving within us
with our monthly menses and moods.

Please feel free to submit one of your cards for a
future issue by sending a reply email to this
newsletter.

April: Aging
May: Adventure
