Soul Singing with Anne Marie
Anne Marie, the creator of KaleidoSoul.com
Hi!  I'm Anne Marie, the creator of KaleidoSoul.com, and a SoulCollage®  facilitator in Massachusetts.  If you're just starting to sing your song with SoulCollage®, this column is especially for you.

Victoria Grace

I'm going to start this column with a confession. Our lovely granddaughter, Victoria Grace (aka Tori) has been with us for three and a half years now, and I just made this SoulCollage® card for her this week. Because I had to write this column and I didn't have any cards in my Community Suit for any of the children in my life. And I had to have something to write about.

Well, I do have some cards in my Community suit with childrens' photos on them. On both of my nieces' cards, I included images of them when they were little girls. And on each of my parents' cards I added an image of them when they were children.

I don't have children of my own, but I do have three stepchildren and there is not one card in my deck that represents them. And we also have 6 (almost 7!) absolutely beautiful grandchildren, but not one of them has a place in my deck either. Until now!

The card I made for Tori this week came together very quickly, with a lot of intention (I intentionally searched for a few photos to put on the card and a background for them to rest upon) and a little flash of intuition (the silly-looking penguin flying through the air just begged to be added to her card). For me, the whole thing is a perfect representation of her bright, imaginative, comical spirit. I sighed with delight when I had all the images "just right" on the card!

To the right you will see some more wonderful examples of SoulCollagers' cards for the children in their lives. I encourage you to make a card this month for a child who is part of your loving Community of support. If you need encouragement and assistance in building your own Community suit, please consider giving yourself the gift of this 6 week KaleidoSoul e-course: Blessed Connections: A Guided Exploration of the Community Suit.  Don't let your Community suit languish in the dust of neglect. Honor your community members with SoulCollage® cards from your heart!

Our Next Tele-Class

Releasing Familial Myths with SoulCollage®, with Mirabai Joan Kolari, - SoulCollage® Facilitator in California and Europe

The well-known Sufi, Hazrat Inayat Khan says that the family myth is layered upon us. Layers are impressions. These are the roles that you were given and these impressions are layered on your soul.

Today, the question would be... Which ones need to be left behind (because of their false identity) in order to let the soul identify itself fully? When was the last time you asked yourself, "Whose life am I living? What's at the center of my life? Where did this idea come from? Is it the same thing, or has it changed?"

Mirabai will assist us on a journey to explore our own family myths. Through visualization, SoulCollage and art, we will begin to see what these questions uproot.

Above is Mirabai's SoulCollage® card called "Daddy's Little Girl"

I am the one who knows that Daddy is always watching.
I am the one who wants to make my Daddy proud of me.
I am the one who continues to try and fulfill a role that my father had wished for me, but not the one that speaks from my heart.
I am the one who wants to be a child and have all of my plans laid out in front of me. I don't want to think about the future, my Daddy will do that for me.
I am the one who is detail-oriented, organized and bright because of the skills my father exemplified for me.

Please bring with you to the call:
  1. Your journal
  2. Some colored pencils or pens
  3. Your Community Suit cards or family photos

Soul Symphonies with Karen

A Community Card for My Son

I do not have a Community card in my SoulCollage® Deck for my son Kai. I feel really guilty about this, like I am a terrible mother for admitting this... so let me share the many reasons why I haven't made a SoulCollage® card made for my gorgeous son Kai yet!

Excuse 1: I'm not sure which photos to use

Kai is currently 16, and I'm not sure what age I want to show him on his card. Will I chose that favourite photo of him at age 3, one of him in his chubby stage at age 8, his gawky braces stage at 14 or one of him now at 16? And then what do I do as he continues to grow up?

Excuse 2: Using photos takes organization

I have learnt through trial and error that I prefer to copy photos before I glue them to my SoulCollage® Cards. This takes time and organization- to go through my photos, choose them and then get them copied... and I just haven't quite gotten around to it yet.

Excuse 3: I don't know which symbols to use to capture his essence

My son has many interests, from drama to dancing to writing to film making to art & design. How do I capture his many interests and attributes on one card? This feels overwhelming!

Excuse 4: It feels really important that this card is "perfect"

I really want to make a card that is good enough to represent Kai. I want it to be worthy & amazing and express my love for him. This is a lot of pressure- so I've been avoiding making it.

I wonder if any of these excuses sound familiar to you when you think about making your own Community Cards. I know that many SoulCollagers I have met have experienced some or all of these at some time.

Well now it is time to debunk these excuses! There are many different ways to make Community Cards without getting bogged down in all this right-brained logical "stuff." Here are some of the methods I will use to overcome this SoulCollage® "block."

Excuse 1 debunked: I do not have to use only one photo

Rather than looking for the one "perfect" photo I can use a variety of photos at a variety of ages. I can even continue to add to the card as he continues to grow up. (No pressure though- only if I feel drawn to do so).

Excuse 2 debunked: I do not have to use photos at all if I don't want to

On the other hand, I may choose not to use photos at all. I have some amazing Community Cards that do not include an actual photo of the person- so I can stop using this as an excuse.

Excuse 3 debunked: I do not need to logically choose the symbols

I need to remember to "trust the process" and stop being too analytical. I have found in the past that if I work intuitively, using images I am drawn to, the "right" symbols will find their way onto the card.

And I also know that even if I don't have a symbol that doesn't represent a specific aspect of the person on their card, the messages I receive in a reading may still refer to something that is not depicted. For example, a friend who loves cooking but doesn't have any pictures of "cooking" on her card may still have something tell me about cooking. Connecting with her energy will be a holistic expression of her- not limited to the images on her card.

Excuse 4 debunked: Trust the process—remember all SoulCollage® Cards are "perfect"

All SoulCollage® cards are perfect! I need to stop stressing and start creating...and let the images call to me. Whatever I make will be perfect. I also need to remember that this card is my SoulCollage® card, even though it will be about my son- so it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks of it- it's what it means to me that matters!

So now I've reminded myself of a better way to approach making Community Cards and I hope I've reminded you too! Enjoy adding to your Community Suit, as you feel drawn to. Don't pressure yourself, and enjoy the process.

P.S. I've included a few snapshots of Kai- just to prove I am still a proud mother, even if I haven't made a Community Card for him yet!
